Bedrock players on a Java server (Geyser, explained)
How phone, console, and Windows Bedrock players can join a Java server through Geyser.
Minecraft comes in two editions that normally can't play together: Java (PC, Mac, Linux) and Bedrock (Windows Store version, phones, tablets, consoles). Geyser bridges them. It translates Bedrock's network traffic into Java's, so Bedrock players can join a Java server.
We don't sell Bedrock-only servers. Instead, Bedrock players join our Java servers through Geyser.
Which plans support it
- Paper: yes, using the Geyser plugin
- Fabric: yes, using the Geyser mod
- Vanilla: no. Vanilla can't run plugins or mods, so it can't run Geyser.
Floodgate: no Java account needed
Geyser on its own makes Bedrock players log in with a Java account. Floodgate, a companion plugin/mod, lets them join with just their Microsoft/Xbox account. Most friend groups want both.
How Bedrock players connect
Geyser listens on its own port (Bedrock uses UDP, separate from the Java port). Bedrock players add a server with your address and the Geyser port. Java players keep using the normal address.
Ask us on Discord and we'll install Geyser and Floodgate, assign the port, and tell you exactly what your Bedrock players type in.
What to expect
- Mostly the same game. Building, mining, combat, and redstone basics work.
- Some differences. A few mechanics behave slightly differently, and some Java-only features don't show up right for Bedrock players.
- Modded content doesn't translate. On Fabric, Bedrock players won't see blocks or items added by content mods.
- Consoles are fiddly. Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch Bedrock don't have an "add server" button. There are community workarounds; ask us before promising your console friends.
Whitelist note
Floodgate players usually show up with a name prefix (often a dot). Whitelist them by the exact name the console shows.
