How to switch hosts: migrating your world to Zappy
Getting your world off your old host and onto Zappy, step by step — or have us do it.
Moving your world is easier than most people expect. It's files: download from the old host, upload to the new one.
The easy way
Order your plan, then tell us on Discord where your server is now. A real engineer moves the world, matches the version and mods or plugins, and checks it starts. You get the new address. That's included with every plan.
The do-it-yourself way
1. Download from your old host
Stop the server on the old host, then download the world. Most panels have a file manager or a backup download. Get a full backup if you can.
- Minecraft: the
worldfolder. Paper/Spigot servers also haveworld_netherandworld_the_end. Grab your plugins or mods folder and config files too. - Valheim:
YourWorld.dbandYourWorld.fwl, both of them.
2. Match the version
Note the exact game version, and server type (Vanilla, Paper, Fabric), from the old host. Set the same on Zappy before uploading. Loading a world in an older version than it was saved in can damage it.
3. Upload
- In the Zappy panel, stop the server.
- In Files, delete or rename the fresh world the server generated.
- Upload your world folder (zip it first and use Unarchive, it's much faster). For big worlds, use SFTP. The details are in your panel under Settings.
- For Minecraft, make sure
level-nameinserver.propertiesmatches your world folder name. - For Valheim, make sure the world name in the startup settings matches your file names.
4. Start and check
Start the server, watch the console, then log in and check your base is where you left it.
Moving between server types
- Vanilla/Fabric → Paper: Paper splits the Nether and End into their own folders on first start. That's normal.
- Paper → Vanilla/Fabric: you have to move
world_nether/DIM-1andworld_the_end/DIM1back intoworld. Ask us if that sounds annoying. We'll do it.
Don't cancel your old host until you've played on the new server and everything's there.
